"Anthroposophy opens its wellsprings, and the human will, carried by love, may draw from the waters. It brings to life love for humankind and thereby works creatively in impulses for moral action and true social interaction.” — Rudolf Steiner

Dear Friends -

On the Autumn Equinox, September 22nd 2017,  The Elderberries Three-Fold Café Initiative surpassed their crowdfunding goal, raising $25,690, enabling them to pave the way for a 3-Fold Café in the Heart-land!

On Sunday September 24th 2017 a group of over 35 folks from the various Steiner initiatives in the area including: The Chicago Waldorf School, & The Urban Prairie Waldorf School, The Chicago Christian Community, Arcturus, & the Rudolf Steiner Branch, gathered to have an ‘Open Conversation’ with  John Bloom, the General Secretary of the Anthroposophical Society in the US, his associate from  RSF Mark Herrera, & Daniel Evaeus from the Elderberries 3-Fold Café.

The council for the Rudolf Steiner Branch is pleased to announce that we have signed a lease with Elderberries Threefold Café Chicago!

The Branch has been without tenants for many years, which has drained our savings.  The board was faced with a decision to try to sell the building now, or to give Elderberries a chance.

The Branch Council decided that we should work with Elderberries instead of putting the building up for sale at this time.

Elderberries has been working out of Anthroposophy for the last nine years in Hollywood, CA with a particular interest in the Threefold Social Order.

Elderberries Founder Dottie Zold, with LA co-workers Dana Erickson & Daniel Evaeus, came to Chicago this past week to beautify our north space. They were joined by branch, and community members, and Chicago Waldorf High School Students. This renovation will enable us to rent it out for events & such, before a fortified crew will return again after the Holy Nights to build-out the Cafe, which will open in March 2018.

Sincerely yours - The RSB Chicago Council

The newly renovated Elderberries 3-Fold Space is currently available for rental on  PEER SPACE: for classes, events, meetings, retreats, art exhibits, etc...for info contact  Hazel Archer-Ginsberg

Lazure Workshop with Nancy Melvin

January 20-21, 2018, 9 am-5 pm Come to any or all of the sessions

$100 for the weekend (1/2 the proceeds go toward a new heating & cooling system for the branch)

Lazure is a technique for applying several layers of transparent color washes on walls, enlivening interior spaces with breathing, light filled color.  We will Lazure the Branch’s newly renovated areas in anticipation of the Elderberries Cafe moving into the space.  We will look to Steiner’s indications for public spaces in Urban areas for color schemes.  The two day workshop will begin Saturday morning January 20th with color samples and participants can learn the brush technique which is radically different from painting with flat opaque paints.  Then right away on the first day we will test color layers and apply the first several washes on the walls.  There will be down time in between layers for participants to break for morning tea, for lunch and afternoon tea.  The next day will add layers and depth to the colors as needed.  By the end of the workshop you will learn all you need to know to go home and do this work in your home or office.

Nancy Melvin will lead the workshop, a former Waldorf Grades Teacher and teacher of wet on wet painting to children.  She has lazured many Waldorf classrooms, most recently the EC extension of CWS in Lincoln Square and the foyer of CWS’s EC area as well as at the Angelic Organics Farm.
